For several years now, using essential oils has been a popular and effective way to relax, reduce anxiety, get help with chronic pain, and so many more benefits. But you have probably noticed that most lists of essential oils to use are the same. You see a lot of lavender, bergamot, lemon, rosemary, cedar, and peppermint recommended, but there are so many other oils that are just as amazing.
Here are some of the most underrated and less common essential oils that you can add to your collection.
Helichrysum
This is likely essential oil you have never heard of, but it is definitely worth looking into. It is a more expensive essential oil, so it’s not the best one for beginners. However, if you have been using essential oils in your holistic practice for a while, you may want to consider it.
Helichrysum comes from the helichrysum plant and smells a lot like honey. It is a very healing oil that is particularly useful for your skin. Whether you have aging skin or specific skin conditions, this oil is wonderful for your skincare routine. Mentally, it can also help with grief and fear, thanks to the sweet and calming scent.
Goldenrod
Next up is goldenrod, which you may have heard of before, but is not as commonly used in blends. The goldenrod essential oil comes from a flowery herb and is excellent both for relaxing and for your natural beauty routine.
The scent is of florals and grass, but a bit stronger and pungent than other floral essential oils. It is often used to help relax the body if you have chronic pain or just sore muscles, can provide healing to the bottom of your feet, and is amazing for homemade skin products. Try combining it with clary sage in your blends.
Birch
If you are looking for essential oil with more of a woodsy and natural scent, but not an overpowering one, then the birch essential oil is perfect for you. This is a very mild scent and can be used on its own or with a blend. It is both sweet and smells slightly of mint. If you have ever been around a birch tree, you will know that it has a nice, sweet scent to it.
Many of the properties of birch oil are similar to other mint varieties, like peppermint and wintergreen, including reducing anxiety, relaxation, easing digestive issues, and helping with skin conditions.
Vetiver
Lastly, you may want to consider adding more vetiver to your collection. While not a rare or unknown essential oil, it does tend to be underrated quite a bit. With vetiver, you are benefiting from better sleep, balancing your emotions and moods, and helping with chronic pain.
Vetiver smells more on the earthy side, though a little sweet and floral as well. Because this is a slightly thicker oil, you will need to combine it with water in order to use a diffuser. But most people choose to instead create blends with carrier oils and apply them to the skin.
