Vision boards are extremely popular, where you put together a collage of images and words that represent your dream life in a visual way. While they can be really helpful for visualization and manifesting what you want, it is sometimes hard to know what to put on them.
That is where the anti-vision board comes in. An anti-vision board is one where you choose what you DON’T want in your life. This isn’t about never having a regular vision board again, but really focusing on what you don’t want anymore, whether that includes where you live and the job you don’t like, bad habits to break, or cycles to get out of.
The Anti-Vision Board in a Nutshell
The anti-vision board is an exercise that helps you narrow down what you don’t want in your life. This can be in every area of your life, including love, career, home, family, friendships, lifestyle, habits, and much more.
Think of it as a vision board that focuses on what you want to change or improve in your life, as opposed to what you want to add. For example, if your vision boards typically have wealth or abundance on them, think about what in your current financial situation you no longer want. Get specific, whether it is getting rid of insecurity and instability in your life, or no longer living a modest life.
Get Unstuck With Your Direction in Life
There is a lot less pressure when you talk about what you don’t want in your life, than focusing on what you do want. When you create a traditional vision board, you might feel pressure making it perfect and actually knowing what would make you happy. But with the things you know you don’t want, it’s easier to create a list of them.
This is what can help you get unstuck because you’re focusing on something else entirely. You might not know what your dream career is exactly, but you probably know what types of jobs you definitely have no interest in. You can use this to your advantage by writing down all the jobs you know you don’t want, even down to their location, type of company, and the number of employees.
Identify Your Own Toxic Habits
The anti-vision board lets you see right away what bad habits you have in your life because they tend to be the main focus of this exercise. You might notice that you keep talking about your lack of savings, financial issues, and not having a good budget and you don’t want that for yourself anymore. You have identified one of your main bad habits, which is not managing your money properly or making a plan for saving or budgeting.
Figure Out Your Priorities in Life
This type of vision board also helps you see what your priorities are in life. By looking at what you don’t want or are not interested in having in your life, you narrow down your priorities. Maybe your old vision board used to have pictures of women with bodies that you considered your dream body and were willing to change your life in order to make that body a reality. But on your anti-vision board, you don’t even mention anything about your body or physical appearance, so you know that this is no longer a priority for you.
It is normal to change and have new interests and dreams, which is why this can be such a useful exercise. It doesn’t have to be perfect and you can always make changes later on, which is completely normal. But the anti-vision board exercise makes it easier to know what is most important to you right now, and what isn’t.
Does This Mean You Should Never Create a Vision Board Again?
No, absolutely not! We still encourage you to make your vision boards so you can create a visual of what your dream life would look like. They are so beneficial when you really know what it is you want and what will make you happy, but if you’re unsure of what that is, then starting with the “anti-vision board” can be really useful.
